The story of FrugthavenWe are very proud of the space we’ve created at Frugthaven Farm and look forward to sharing it with you. Here’s a bit of our story:
On a Tuesday morning in 2019, my dad (Mike) suggested that he and my mom (April) buy a portion of a generations-old apple orchard. That day. In an online auction. My mom was very surprised and was very quick to say ‘no thank you’. So, of course, they bought it and toasted with hard ciders later that evening.
Almost immediatly they began to dream about what they should do with the historic barns, the 14,000 square foot market space, and the beautiful, but in need of care, apple trees. As my mom and dad dreamed of all the possibilities, they realized their crazy, spur-of-the-moment purchase actually made perfect sense.
It was an opportunity for them to share their natural hospitality skills with the community and create something brand new, a place designed to be shared with families, couples, and groups of all kinds.
So, with the help of friends, they jumped in, rolled up their sleeves, and began to transform a beloved ‘fall-fun-farm’ into a new kind of destination. Now you will find a gourmet restaurant - Applewood Kitchen + Bar - still featuring Michigan-made hard ciders, Sailor + Sipper; a super cool Barbour shop, our beautiful event and wedding venues, and most importantly, the best company.
We hope to exceed your expectations, serve you well, and treat you and your guests like friends. Frugthaven is our version of the Danish word ‘fruit garden,’ and we look forward to showing it to you.

“While we had no idea what we were going to do with this accidental property purchased in March of 2019, I think we’re figuring it out pretty well. Thank you as always for following along and for your kind support of our crazy ideas.”
